Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
-
84 g gelatin
-
10 g citric acid
-
4 boxes Jell-O (84 g each, any flavor)
Wet Ingredients
-
342 g corn syrup
-
320 g room temperature water
-
2.5 ml LorAnn mold inhibitor
Extract Mixture
-
10 g CBD Isolate or CBG Isolate or 5 g THC extract
-
20 ml propylene glycol (PG)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Molds
-
Dry gummy molds in the oven at 300–350°F for 5–10 minutes. Set aside on a towel-covered counter.
Step 2: Make the Extract Mixture
-
In a mason jar, combine PG with isolate (or THC extract).
-
Seal and shake well.
-
If needed, place the jar in a warm double boiler until dissolved and clear. Set aside.
Step 3: Make the Dry Mix
-
In a large bowl, combine gelatin, citric acid, and Jell-O.
-
Mix thoroughly with a spatula. Set aside.
Step 4: Make the Wet Mix
-
In another bowl, combine corn syrup, water, and mold inhibitor.
-
Stir until fully blended.
Step 5: Combine Dry & Wet
-
Gradually add the wet mix into the dry mix, stirring continuously until fully incorporated.
-
Do not add the extract mixture yet.
Step 6: Heat the Base Mixture
-
Transfer mixture to a double boiler. Heat gently while stirring until it reaches 120°F.
-
Alternatively, use a microwave in 10–15 second bursts, stirring between each, until at temperature.
Step 7: Add Extract Mixture
-
Once the base is at 120°F, add the PG/isolate (or THC extract) mixture.
-
Stir thoroughly for at least 3 minutes to ensure cannabinoids are evenly distributed.
Step 8: Maintain Heat
-
Keep mixture warm at ~120°F during the molding process.
-
Pro tip: transfer to ketchup bottles and keep bottles in a warm water bath so mixture stays pourable.
Step 9: Fill Molds
-
Squeeze warm mixture into molds.
-
Tap molds gently to remove bubbles and ensure consistent fill.
Step 10: Dry & Cure
-
Allow gummies to air dry in a cool, controlled environment (≤80°F, ~45% humidity) for ~1 week.
-
Cure for another week to stabilize moisture.
-
Optionally coat in sugar after curing, but test a small batch first to ensure stability.
Important Coating Note
Only coat a small test batch at first (5-10 gummies). Give it 1–2 days to make sure the sugar doesn’t melt into the gummy. If gummies aren’t fully cured and still hold moisture, sugar coating will dissolve them.
Pro tip: Gummies are fine to eat while curing, but they taste better and last longer once fully dried and coated.
Notes & Dosage
-
CBD/CBG version (10 g isolate = 10,000 mg total): ~25 mg per gummy (400 gummies)
-
THC version (5 g extract at 85% = ~4,250 mg total): ~10 mg per gummy (400 gummies)
For firmer gummies, increase gelatin by 10–15%. For softer gummies, slightly reduce gelatin or increase liquids.
FAQs
How do these compare to store-bought gummies?
They’re cheaper, customizable, and rival the quality of top brands like Wyld or Charlotte’s Web.
Can I swap in THC for CBD/CBG?
Yes — simply replace isolate with THC extract using the same method.
Why is curing important?
It stabilizes texture, prevents stickiness, and improves shelf life.
What’s the shelf life?
Up to 8 months stored in airtight containers in a cool, dark place. Adding potassium sorbate at the mold inhibitor stage extends shelf life further.
